B. B. King

His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. Yet B.B. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 76, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on B.B., other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don't look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of T.V. commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. B.B. King is as alive as the music he plays, and a grateful world can't get enough of him. To read his whole biography, go to.--

George Bernard Shaw

George Bernard Shaw was a world-famous Irish playwright. During his career he authored more than sixty plays. Nearly all of his writings dealt sternly with prevailing social problems, but are nicely leavened by a vein of comedy. He pondered education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege and found them all defective. Below are some of the famous inspirational quotes that this incredible man had to share about what life is really about.

Man Wakes Wife From Coma By Yelling At Her

After two weeks without any progress, Yvonne's doctor told Dominic that it might be time to say goodbye to his beloved wife. If she didn't wake up soon, they would turn off the life-support machine and let her slip away. Dominic had already lost a son – he couldn't bear the thought of losing his wife, too. So he did the only thing he could think of that might bring her back: He yelled at her. Click below to read the end of this story.---

Square Watermellons

A few years ago, Japanese farmers realized that they could grow square watermelons using a simple technique. Their "secret" recipe doesn't require gene hacking, chemicals, or any other questionable practice. Before I reveal how they did it, let me make one point about the nature of good ideas.Square watermelons are obviously a great idea, but only in hindsight. Good ideas are like that - obvious in hindsight. Before you saw these photos, you probably assumed the status quo; that all watermelons are awkward, difficult to transport, stack, carry, and slice. But when you see the photos, you instantly get it.So, how do they grow square watermelons? The farmers put boxes around the melons as they grow, and the melons simply fill the available space! Brilliant! Go to.---

Scientist Warns About Military Robots

Many nations are now involved in developing the technology for robot weapons, with the US Department of Defence (DoD) being the most significant player. According to the Unmanned Systems Roadmap 2007-2013 (published in December 2007), the US propose to spend an estimated $4 billion by 2010 on unmanned systems technology. The total spending is expected to rise above $24 billion.
Over 4,000 robots are currently deployed on the ground in Iraq and by October 2006 unmanned aircraft had flown 400,000 flight hours. Currently there is always a human in the loop to decide on the use of lethal force. However, this is set to change with the US giving priority to autonomous weapons - robots that will decide on where, when and who to kill. To read this full story, go to.---

Eco-Friendly Ship Powered By Waves

First there was the air-powered car, now here comes a wave-powered boat! The three-ton catamaran Suntory Mermaid II may not set any speed records on its May 2008 voyage from Hawaii to Japan but as the Tortoise once said, "slow and steady wins the race". This particular race is all about making alternative energy work economically and practically. So, how does wave power work? As the above illustration shows, a pair of side-by-side fins in the ship's bow absorb wave energy and express it in a dolphin-like "kick". Go to this site here---

Help For Abused Woman--In Hair Salons

Domestic violence is a huge problem in today's society. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 3 million women in America are beaten or abused by their husbands or boyfriends each year. Sadly, many abused women are too afraid to speak out against their attackers and seek help, even though it could be the difference between life and death: In the United States, an average of 3 women die at the hands of their abusers every single day.
For most women, the hair salon can be the perfect place to share secrets about everything under the sun, from guilty pleasures to illicit affairs. It's a classier version of Taxicab Confessions, with the added bonus of a cute new ‘do.
Even though hair stylists may not be able to convince women to leave their abusers, "what we are encouraging from the salon operator, is just to provide them with the information, ‘think about it, there's help,'" said Dominguez . Go here for more information and to read the full article.---

Want Some Placenta In Your Hair Conditioner?

By Patricia Mayville-Cox. The placenta is a wonderful organ that receives nutrients, oxygen, antibodies, and hormones from the pregnant mother, gives them to a developing fetus and then passes out the waste.
It also found in cosmetics like hair conditioners and face creams. I knew this, somewhere in the back of my mind
Here's a scary study: Four girls between one and eight years of age developed breast or pubic hair two to 24 months after starting the use of estrogen- or placenta-containing hair products. The developing breasts and pubic hair regressed when they stopped using the products and no other cause for early sexual development was found. Go here.---

Bye Bye Banana

Enjoy those banana splits while you can because in 10 years the banana may be no more… or at least may never be the same.
Two fungi, Panama disease and Sigatoka, are threatening the current major variety, the Cavendish. (This variety was more resistant than the earlier Gros Michel, which succumbed to Panama disease in the 1950s.) Because the repeated cuttings have prevented the bananas from reproducing sexually and therefore changing up their genes, they are less resistant to pests. Poetry By Mary Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep,I am not there, I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow.I am the diamond glint on snow.I am the sunlight on ripened grain.I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush,I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight.I am the soft starlight at night.Do not stand at my grave and weep.I am not there, I do not sleep.Do not stand at my grave and cry.I am not there, I did not die! Underground Shelters

Many people ask us how could one survive a major disaster, whether natural or man made or a combination thereof. One way nature protects its critters is getting them underground. Ground hogs and ants are good examples. They have been around for a long time. So has nature.
A properly built and installed underground shelter is an excellent way to improve your chances for long term survival. The Survival Center has been building and installing underground shelters since the late 1970’s. Over the years we have refined what really works well and not so well. Go here.--- Thanks Linda.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S * Ask the individual to SMILE. ? T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today) ? R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. ?If he or she has trouble with ? Ancient Cave Found In Rome

(newser) – Archaeologists have found the cave worshiped by ancient Romans as the site where a wolf nursed the infant twins Romulus and Remus, who later founded the city. The cave, called the Lupercale, was found underground in an unexplored site near the palace of Augustus. "You can imagine our amazement, we almost screamed," says the head of the archaeological team. • Excavating the site will be difficult, because the cave is two-thirds filled with debris, reports Reuters. "We have to investigate with extreme caution," says an archaeologist. "This is a precious thing which is certainly more than 2,000 years old." Hugh Hike In Washington State License Fees

Vehicle License Fee Bill SB6900There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our vehicle license fees. Everyone needs to know about so this situation so that you can contact your representatives and voice your objection. The bill is SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the vehicle license tabs upon renewal. The fee has a varied amount depending on the size of the vehicle's engi ne: Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule Up to 1.9 $0 2.0 - 2.9 $70 3.0 - 3.9 $225 4.0 - 4.9 $275 5.0 - 5.9 $325 6.0 - 7.9 $400 8.0 or over $600 For each car & truck that you own, calculate the rate by matching the engine size in liters to the dollar amount. Add the amounts for each vehicle and you'll see that the average two car family will be paying $500+ every year in "displacement fees" on top of the normal license fees. If you have three vehicles, you'll be paying even more. The average family is already struggling with the high cost of gasoline, electricity, food and everything else, and our lawmakers want us to pay more, thinking we have unlimited deep pockets. This will do great damage to the budgets of retirees on fixed incomes as well. Now is the time to be very vocal against this bill. You should contacted all of your representatives, and you w ould encourage everyone reading this to do t he same. Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text: Here's the link for contacting your representatives: Thanks Kenny
