Tropical Fish Can Live For Months Out Of Water

GUATEMALA CITY - A tropical fish that lives in mangrove swamps across the Americas can survive out of water for months at a time, similar to how animals adapted to land millions of years ago, a new study shows.
The Mangrove Rivulus, a type of small tropical killifish, seeks refuge in shallow pools of water in crab burrows, coconut shells or even old beer cans in the tropical mangrove swamps of Belize, Brazil and the United States. Click here-

Practical, Afordable Water Filter

People caught in a disaster-devastated area always need clean water. By clean we mean without bacteria--the little unseen critters that make people sick with diseases like Cholera. Without it, they cannot maintain their health and strength and they cannot begin recovery. Click here for more on this new water filter- http://www.monolithic.com/edcircle/waterfilter/ . Thanks to Kleiners Korner for info.

Blue Or Pink?

To prevent evil spirits from entering the bodies of their male children, parents dressed them in blue. Blue was chosen because it's the color of the sky and was therefore associated with heavenly spirits.
Girls weren't dressed in blue, apparently because people didn't think that evil spirits would bother with them. Eventually, however, girls did get their own color: pink. Pink was chosen because of an old English legend which said that girls were born inside of pink roses. Click here for more weird facts. www.weirdfacts.com

Weird Facts-Jonathan Swift

In Gulliver's Travels Jonathan Swift described the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, giving their exact size and speeds of rotation. He did this more than 100 years before either moon was discovered. Click here for lots of weird facts. http://www.weirdfacts.com/
Easter Island

Easter Island has long been the subject of curiosity and speculation. How and why did its inhabitants carve and transport the massive statues which surround the island? What remains of this culture today, and what lessons can we learn from their legacy? This page is a resource for information on the Internet about Easter Island, also known as "Rapa Nui" and "Isla de Pascua". Beyond the Age of Petroleum

This past May, in an unheralded and almost unnoticed move, the Energy Department signaled a fundamental, near epochal shift in US and indeed world history: we are nearing the end of the Petroleum Age and have entered the Age of Insufficiency. The department stopped talking about "oil" in its projections of future petroleum availability and began speaking of "liquids." The global output of "liquids," the department indicated, would rise from 84 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe) per day in 2005 to a projected 117.7 mboe in 2030--barely enough to satisfy anticipated world demand of 117.6 mboe. Aside from suggesting the degree to which oil companies have ceased being mere suppliers of petroleum and are now purveyors of a wide variety of liquid products--including synthetic fuels derived from natural gas, corn, coal and other substances--this change hints at something more fundamental: we have entered a new era of intensified energy competition and growing reliance on the use of force to protect overseas sources of petroleum. Palenque, Mexico

I visited Palenque, Mexico in 1971. It was mysterous, enchanting, beautiful--something I'll never forget. Click on this Site to see beautiful photos, and learn more about the Mayan People. Click-http://www.mayaruins.com/palenque.html
"Palenque sits like a jewel against the Chiapas Mountains overlooking the broad coastal plain that came to be known as Nonowal and Xicalanco to later peoples in Mesoamerica. The ancient Palenque people constructed their palaces, temples, and houses on natural and manufactured terraces that rise up the northern side of the first ridge of these forest-covered limestone mountains. They called their city Lakam Ha, "Big Water," and their kingdom Bak, "Bone." Quoting info from this site.

'Wake Up Calls' is available at http://www.biofractalevolution.com/ . Order a copy today.
"Over the past few years, I've worked with Boston-born dynamic rocker Jon Baroni on the writing and development of a new paradigm "environmental" album designed to lend strength to the growing consensus that, in John Kennedy's phrasing, "Man must put an end to war, or war will put an end to man." quoted from T. Hall at http://www.biofractalevolution.com/ about the making the CD-'Wake Up Calls'.

Bitterroot Fire

"This awesome picture was taken in Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6, 2000. The photographer, John McColgan, is a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska. He took the picture with a digital camera. Because he was working at the time he took the picture he cannot profit from it; however, we feel the picture is a once-in-a-lifetime shot and should be shared."
