There were some special guest stars on stage and off too...like for example, SHERYL CLARK/sax and GARY CROOKS/guitar..whew...now I've gone and done it..I don't wanna miss anyone, do I? Remember those temporary technical things I was mentioning earlier?....well,....you know,...it COULD happen...I could miss someone very special AND, then I'd be in trouble, wouldn't I?
So, let me just say this...lots and lots (tons) of cool folks were there...too many for me to mention..someone else might wanna try, please be my guest, and help me out there. Over and out for now. Jan

You don't wanna miss it. It's at DAWSON's on South Tacoma Way in Tacoma, WA., starts at 8 o'clock. Address of DAWSONs...5443 South Tacoma Way....Take the 65th street exit from I-5, then go west to South Tacoma Way,  turn right...there it is on the right....can't miss it.
Now, I know you've heard alotta Christmas carols lately....well, there won't be any of those...but,I hear a lottsa what I call BLUZZZ, and some jazz, funk, rockish kinda tunes [this band has their own sound....called..just plain cool.Jan] hear some sass too. Get ready to do some dancing on their dance floor.
Let me tell ya more 'bout this 'sass-y' band....O.K?
How'd this all begin?
SHELLY ELY/extreme vocal for SASS,s performed in a band called BIG NASTY with amazing JHO BLENI on/guitar forever..well, .she met him at the age of 11....and, as she says:' she's old!' Anyway, Jho died in May 2014....so, Shell missed him, of course, and wanted put together another band. Her 'SASS Guys' met each other and they ended up being the cool song writer guy STEVE MERRIAM/guitar, always in the groove,.. ANDRE THOMAS/drums and my hubby...funky big bottom STEVE BARTLETT/bass. Mixing up the first letters of their names ,,,,,3 'S's and one 'A'.....SASS was formed....AND, a bonus was.....Shelly's sassy, let's say...'ah'... just normally. so, the name has fit..
See you on the 26th at DAWSONs...8 o'clock..wave and smile. Jan

Jammin Tonight With Some 'Feel Good' JAMES BROWN and DUKE ELLINGTON

So, BARTLETT's working up some tunes that maybe called off tonight...mainly some JAMES BROWN and DUKE ELLINGTON. Never know what'll happen at the jam on Monday Nights, anything from Jazz to Funk, to Rock, to Country, etc....all levels, all styles....All are welcome...bring your axe and join the fun.
Anyway, I 'll post some video links below, as well as some cool stuff about James Brown from one of my earlier stories about him. O.K?Here goes.....Jan
Every week there seems to be different folks at the jam....Here's who is gonna be there....KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums, DENNY FOREMAN/guitar, STEVE BARTLETT ON BASS, as far as I know....there's a cool SAX guy named JOE, BOB/drummer, KEVIN/another drummer...some guitar people, harp guy,  singers too.

===========================
From my story on December 19, 2013...about JAMES BROWN...
'Each morning, as we drink our coffee, Steve reads to me...and we both learn about something new, usually about music or things of the spirit...it's another special time together, along with our rehearsing tunes ... getting Steve ready for gigs.
This morning, BARTLETT picked up 'The Music Lesson' a book by VICTOR WOOTEN/bass and HERE. He's one of our favorite bass guys. Steve recomends this book to all his students and we both really enjoy it too. Steve BARTLETT ON BASS started reading to me on the bottom of page 105, [just in case you want to look this up too.] AND, I will look for some more info. online 'cause this is very interesting to me.....Did you know, that after Rev. Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING jr.'s assination in 1968, PRESIDENT JOHNSON and other government officals called upon the king of soul JAMES BROWN to help stop and to prevent spreading black rioting in Boston and across the whole country? After that, James Brown said that he was considered " the most dangerous man in the world" by the government because...'cause if he could stop a riot, he could start one...just as easily...WOW.,.. and the government kept files on many musicians, like BOB MARLEY and HEREJIM MORRISONELVIS PRESLEY and HERE just because of their influence on the folks in this country.
O.K....I founds some more info. about James Brown and his ability to influence  and calm folks back in 1968, after King's assination on YOUTUBE. One is called 'The Night James Brown Saved Boston' from jackhogan1 . This is all the page says: " Uploaded on Nov 24, 2008"     I'll post more video links below. O.K? Jan

"Wild Women Don't Get the Blues"...Oh Yea They Do

photo and this flyer by me.. J.A.Rose-Bartlett cc 2010
Well, look what I found this afternoon....it's 'Wild Woman Don't Get the Blues'written by Ida Cox, sung by FRANCINE REED and HERE.. Looks like Ms Reed was  in Seattle a few months ago....go HERE for more.....WOW..would have loved to have been there. Jan
Well, the tune brought back memories to me, [Jan again] like music often does. I remember when Steve did this tune with CARA CLARKE-POWERS, when he was in the band called 'BE HEAR'...remember? Here's more info....IDA COX was an awesome black blues singer that reached her peak in the 1920s, performing in extraganza stage shows in the1920s and 30s. Her audience were mostly Southern ladies, that loved her wit and urban blues style, making her very successful and popular. She was born in Georgia in 1896 and died in 1967 in Tennessee. and, as I was saying earlier, I first heard of IDA COX, when my STEVE BARTLETT ON BASS played in the band BE HEAR, which featured the amazing CARA CLARKE-POWERS doing the blues vocals. STEFAN ABUAN was the guitarist, KEVIN CHRISTENSEN joined later on drums. Cara kindly asked me to join this band, and I happily played the computer keyboard for awhile. SMILE.....until I realized, it was really a lot of hard work, took a lot of my time AND I was expected to do it all for FREE, not like the other band members, who all got paid plus food/drinks etc. at all the gigs. I sadly quit in a big huff [when I  'woke up' watching the rest of the band with food and drink after a show...and,.I was hungry and thinking of eating a stranger's cold half eatened spell? plate of food..never understood why I didn't just ask for a plate, but...didn't.  DARN IT Anyway. Had to ask myself 'How unworthy can I get?], I  sure do miss Cara, we had become great friends. She is not in the area any more as far as I know. Love you Cara Clarke, go hear her if you have a chance, she's awesome ...you'll enjoy yourself.. Her family's in Chicago...perhaps she's over there. :-[ I know, I know Cara....'Wild Woman Don't Get The Blues...do we Cara? ...Miss you.' Jan] Cara sang 'Wild Woman Don't Get The Blues' by IDA COX  sung here by Reed. Jan

Powerful Jam....And, the Winners Are?

Foreman, Christensen and Bartlett, by J.A.Rose-Bartlett cc
Powerful Jam...Winners...Who'Who? Cool jam last night at UNCLE SAMs in Spanaway, and I was there to see it all happen. Lucky me. First off, where's UNCLE SAMs you ask? Address 16003 Pacific Ave....in Spanaway, of course. Highlights: JOSEPH PLEMMONS helped out DENNY FOREMAN on guitar and was great, even while he was under the weather, and had to leave the stage a few times..what a trooper...thanks Joe. A sax guy named 'little Joe' came in, played his horn beautifully and got us all in the Christmas spirit with his 'saxy' tunes. Plemmons' bass guy, ERIC, from 'Strange Pleasure' came in and played some bass while my Steve had fun on the guitar, letting Plemmons rest awhile...cool. Thanks Eric...Steve just loves to play electric guitar too.KEVIN CHRISTENSEN sang two tunes, some of my favorites. Jared played guitar, sang....there were two drums and that was fun. Bob on drums,, and two Kevin's on drums...WOW. ( wasn't it Santana that regularly played with two drummers?...like all the time?). Next jam, maybe I'll get up there and who knows? Jan O.K. I'm on iPad again, will add links and photos when I get on the BIG computer. Jan

Cool Old Video of BARTLETT With BARONI From 2010

Michael Harrison, Steve Bartlett, by J.A.Rose-Bartlett cc
Cool Old Video of BARTLETT With BARONI From 2010 O.K....I just saw an old video of my Steve from way back in 2010 on FACEBOOK. He's playing at the now closed LIQUID SOUL COFFEE ROASTERs in McKenna, Wa. Miss that place all the time, and, owners MARTIN SALINAS/guitar/vocals and BARB SALINAS, who moved back to California. Anyway, where was I?...oh yes, the video.....Steve has known singer/song writer JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals for over 20 years. They've done lots a projects together, and visit together or have coffee often. Jon works in Costco now (day job), and, I miss his music. My favorite tune of his has always been 'Harbor Town', I haven't been able to find a video of it. Here's another cool tune of Baroni's called 'Down to the River'....my Bartlett's doing bass, TOD LEMKUHL/guitar and MICHAEL HARRISON/drums. It was the last gig for the band ECLIPSE, as I remember it, from my notes....Reforming with SCOTT ERCOLANI/drums as the band WALTER's BIRTHDAY. Enjoy. I will post the video, photos and links tomorrow...I'm on my iPad right now. Thanks for understanding. Jan

WEIRD Born To Jam LESLIE Does It Right for Christmas With Gem Sweaters

Leslie in Pink by Leslie Hall/see link
O.K.....I check on weird LESLIE HALL every year just to see what she's up to....I wanna know. And so, I thought I'd tell you all about it.
First off...let me say...Leslie is amazing. A few years ago when I checked in on her she was busy touring with her band in Australia...Australia?...and had gigs booked all over he U.S....What?
She's one of a kind stage performer with her own original music, has said that 'she's born to jam.'...and, she does it all, writes music, sings dances?[ I use that word loosely], creates videos and clothing [see her Leslie in Pink photo...one of her own creations]. She owns a museum [of sorts]...and, if she can do it, well, what are WE waiting for?...Anyway?
But, today's visit to her site was for another cool purpius [spell?]...It's CHRISTMAS TIME. what a better way to celebrate the Holidays, than to make a gift 'they' won't easily forget...you know a Gem Sweater, or streatchy pants like Leslies.
I found a cool video just in time for the Holiday WITH easy instruction for Gem Sweaters....the perfect Christmas gift! With the Streatchy pants you're on you own. If I find instructions for streatchy pants I'll post it O.K? Just trying to help, Jan

WOW...Private Gig ....What A Way To Party

see photo credit below
Steve plays all over western Washington....and this Saturday, November 21st, we're off to Gig Harbor for a private party gig.....WOW!!  What a way to celebrate Thanksgiving...with some live music.
Steve went to his music buddie...PAT
COLE/guitar/vocals lasr night for a rehearsal. What fun  and they're ready for this Saturday.
This is the second year Pat and Steve have done this party...I had a great time....but, it's late ...se have a SASS rehearsal to be at....so, I'll havta finish this tomorrow and put some music videos up too. Jan
-----------------------------------
O.K., I know, I know.....it's Sunday.....this gig was yesterday....So,....let me give you a report about how the gig went...yeah, that'll work...softer as if talking to myself.... [pause......feeling pretty darn clever.]. Of course Jan.
Bartlett by J.A.Rose- bartlett cc
Well, let's see....hummm...we got to the OLALLA COMMUNITY CENTER in where else? Olalla, WA., near Gig Harbor early,...before everything started that is. Steve helped me to a cool seat near the stage.....Boy,  the Hall was soon filled with lottsa wonderful 'Thanksgiving food' smells, as folks carried in their favorite Holiday treats [potluck]....what a beautiful place, decorated in Holiday colors I was ready for action.
First,, were the  community announcements [spell?]....then,....food....yeah...delicious...Steve brought me a big plate full for me and one for himself....we shared,....I'm 'tasting' goodies off his plate, and he mine....is it polite to say?   you know, gulp and devour quickly...smacking our lips loudly and using our sleves as napkins?...-[.burp].... Well,...then.....I didn't say it.....O.K?    [ just a little reminder that spelling maybe creative in all my posts AND, start at any time...maybe. Jan]
O.K.....now, for the music...it was awesome. JIM VALLEY, one of the original member of that cool '60s , '70s band...PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS was there again this year. He sang several old favorites , I loved it. Besides singing, he played guitar and the keys too. All of the musicians were excellant players...the large dance floor full of families, people having fun. children were excited....jumping up and down with each beat....the place was full.
Another food break....pies...with whip cream....WOW.
More great music...AND, we got home 'bout 1? Fell asleep quickly with a big smile on my face. Alwats reporting the good stuff....Jan
