NOT Only The Night Time...It's Always The Right Time

see photo credit cc
'This is a fun song. Lots of people have covered it, and I'll post their links below. O.K? Anyway, it was recorded by NAPPY BROWN in 1957, soon followed the version I remember by RAY CHARLES and  HERE in 1958. [from WIKIPEDIA]...But, it's been around for along time, since 1937 at least, when ROOVEVELT SYKES listed it as one of his tunes. Stkes was a blues piano man. BIG BILL BROONZY and LENNY CARR did the song eariler than Skyes, probably the song got it's start in vaudeville. I posted a video link of Big Bill Broonzy it didn't have 'The Night Time' on it, but showed some fun ragtime so I posted it too. Jan

'Trust Me...I'm Lying'... RYAN HOLIDAY

by slava cc, see photo credit link
'Trust Me...I'm Lying' [thanks Simplifilm.com] is a video about a book of RYAN HOLIDAY's and HERE. I saw this video trailer of his book and info this morning on SU and then YOUTUBE. It was really interesting to me...do you know that reporters, who make let's say $60,000. a year...need to get 1.8 million pageviews  a year to 'earn their keep' from those folks who need and pay those same reporters. WOW...that's alot. [as you can see, I do this blog only for the LOVE of music, which is worth it all. SMILE]
Well, RYAN HOLIDAY helps musicians and news folks to understand how to increase their pageviews...and, that means..making more money. He has really researched this stuff, and taken a real good look at online news.
Holliday decuses the problems and/or value of using emotions. Well, This hopefully is a better way of saying this O.K?...  read this EXAMPLE: I found it intersting that the more EMOTIONAL a story is...really influences the pageviews and the stories that get printed or online...meaning that the news that get online is well,..the more emotional a story, are those that make more money for the writer, leaving other importand but not as emotional news unreported. How do we know what is real news or exagerated for profits, anyway?
In this video interviewing Ryan Holiday from MEDIA MAYHEM [thanks TheLipTV], brings up many  very interesting ideas, some about using and even creating rumors. Being responsible with what is posted. Marketing, advertizing, money and integrety.
Here's that video trailer of Holiday's Book called 'Trust Me, I'm Lying'[by Simplifilm.com]. The book is available on AMAZON, see link below..... Order: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASI...

KISS Me Mama,..Gonna See My Smiling' Painted Face..'.On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone'

Kiss's Rolling,Stone Cover, see links
O.K., Today, I read that the original members [PAUL STANLEY, GENE SIMMONS, ACE FREHLEY and PETER CRISS] of KISS and HERE, finally got on the cover of THE ROLLING STONE after 40 years of music. They're being inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME and HERE too, even though the band decided not to perform at that Hall of Fame celebration, because it was "deeply insulting" to the current members of the band [TOMMY THAYER/guitar and ERIC SINGER/drums]. Ace Frehley and Peter Criss left 'Kiss' in the '80's...a long time ago. Here's a copy of the Kiss cover on 'The Rolling Stone', with only the original members from "a classic 1975 photo of the band's original lineup.". Read all about it at the above link.
To follow THE ROLLING STONE, link above, and: @rollingstone on Twitter | RollingStone on Facebook
I never listened much to 'Kiss', but sure remember their painted faces and, thought they were abit extreme...O.K., I fess up...it was only my problem...I thought those painted faces 'scary'. but wait, to have a band together for 40 years, to be on the cover of the Rolling Stone and in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame too, this band gets MY respect. and attention.. And of course, I always enjoyed and who doesn't? like 'Rock and Roll All Night' [thanks, KissologyVideos] Here's what the video page says about this tune: " Uploaded on Jul 22, 2009
All the countries have a national anthem, well this is the Rock 'n Roll Worldwide Anthem, realesed on Dressed to Kill, this song is one of the most famous song of the band, the song said all, you have to Rock 'n Roll all Night, and Party Everyday, with the famous drum intro, same as "Anythink for my Baby" also realesed on Dressed to Kill.
The studio version of the song peaked at #57 on the Billboard singles chart, besting the band's previous charting single, "Kissin' Time" (#79). A subsequent live version released as a single in October 1975, eventually reached #12, the first of six Top 20 songs for Kiss in the 1970s. Since then, it has become Kiss's most identifiable song, and has served as one of the group's closing concert numbers in almost every concert since 1976. In 2009 it was named the 16th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.
"Rock and Roll All Nite" was written by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons while Kiss was still in Los Angeles, as part of their Hotter Than Hell tour although during the groups concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit on January 26, 1976, Stanley states to the audience before the group begin the song that it was written in and for Detroit. The tour ended early (February 1975), when Casablanca Records founder and president Neil Bogart ordered Kiss to return to the studio to record a follow up to Hotter Than Hell, which had stalled on the charts and failed to meet Casablanca's sales expectations. One of Bogart's instructions to the band was to compose an anthem, something he felt the band needed. The song itself was inspired by the Slade song Cum on Feel the Noize, and is often referred to as the Rock And Roll National Anthem (for instance, Stanley states during Kiss' performance at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards that "there's only one nation, that's Kiss Nation, there's only one Rock & Roll national anthem: Rock and Roll All Nite, party everyday!")
Stanley wrote the chorus, and Simmons wrote the verses, borrowing parts of a song he had previously written, entitled "Drive Me Wild." The song was one of two the group recorded toward the end of the Hotter Than Hell tour, prior to returning to Electric Lady Studios for the proper Dressed to Kill recording sessions. For the choruses, the band and Bogart brought in a large group of outside contributors to sing and clap, including members of the Kiss road crew, studio musicians, and Peter Criss's wife Lydia. Some of the road crew used their jacket zippers to create sound"  Jan

Oowee..'.A Wild Night Calling' By JOHN MELLENCAMP

see photo credit
Who's JOHN MELLENCAMP and HERE? Also known as JOHNNY COUGER eariler in his musical career ['76 to '84].  He's well known for his own brand of rock, known as 'Heartland rock'...it  "emphasizes traditional instrumentation" [from WIKIPEDIA]. When BARTLETT played with JON BARONI/keys/harp/vocals...Jon told me he really enjoyed Melloncamp, so, when my Steve was going over Melloncamp's tune 'Wild Night' [thanks JohnMellencampVEVO] for tonight's gig at THE STONEGATE, I thought I'd look up more about this him. O. K?
First thing that I noticed,...John Mellencamp was born in 1951, same as my Steve., a very good start..yep, a good year. Next....well, Melloncamp has had alot of hits AND, nominated for 13 GRAMMY AWARDS too. I guess, he's sold over 40 million albums. Was put into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2008. That just shows me that lots of folks love his sound....like BARTLETT and I do.
Mellencamp was  a founding organizer of FARM AID with WILLIE NELSON and HERE and NEIL YOUNG and HERE , that  project focused the public's attention on the poverty and the loss of family farms in the U.S.. Concerts have raised millions of dollars over the years to help those farmers and the concerts have been going on for over 29 years now. WOW.
Other things that I noted is that John has lead a alcohol and drug-free life, and doesn't recomend drugs etc.. He has been an artist and has painted most of life,  is a natural 'story-teller', becoming interesting characters in his songs. Mellencamp has done some acting along with his long list of music hits over the years.
Here's a video link to WILD NIGHT, by John Mellencamp, from JohnMellencampVEVO....We'll all hear that tune along with lots more tonight starting  at 9 pm in Tacoma at 5419 South Tacoma Way...THE STONEGATE PIZZA AND RUM BAR. That's KEVIN CHRISTENSEN/drums and HERE, EDDIE PEREZ/guitar/vocals, SUSAN KENDALL/vocals and last but not least....BARTLETT ON BASS. Oh yeah, with ME on Pizza..[.gimme two pieces...one for each hand]. I'll be smiling and sitting right in front of that very handsome bassman. A perfect night of music. Jan

BOB DYLAN In The 8o's.... BIGGER Than Rock And Roll,....Really

see photo credit cc
Today, I found a post on THE ROLLING STONE about another of my favorite musical artists....BOB DYLAN and HERE, It's written by novelist JONATHAN LETHERM and HERE, the post's about Dylan in the 80's. Letherm's written about Bob Dylan before, see link. Well, O.K. then, now were talkin'. I enjoyed the article and always everything about Dylan it seems, that's why he's MY hero, of course. Thanks Letherm a great read, go to 'The Rolling Stone' link above to read it all it for yourself.
I've also written about Bob Dylan from TOM PETTY's and HERE point of view. Go HERE for MY story ...'Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' performed with Dylan in the 80's....it was alot of hard work for them all...but, worth it. Petty really admired our and his hero Dylan.
Another story I wrote was about JOAN BAEZ and HERE and DYLAN's love affair in the 60's, and her song 'Diamonds And Rust' [thanks MReineck] about that time in her life. Go  HERE for that story. WOW...It's 'Raining Dylan Day'...Yeah.
Anyway, enjoy the post in 'The Rolling Stone' by J.Letherm, like I did. Jan

When 'JOSIE' Comes Home, by STEELY DAN

STEELY DAN, see photo credit
What's BARTLETT working up today. OH...It's some old cool ' funky jazzy bluzy' or the very cool sound of STEELY DAN and HERE, BARTLETT, KARNES and ANDRE are doing an instrumental version of 'Josie' [thanks BetaClassics]. Here's a video link of 'The Making of 'Josie' by Donald Fagen'.[thanks Hoodoo Skidoo].
Who's or what's Steely Dan, you ask? Well, it's a '70's 'jazz rock' band. Steve's old time friend MIKE KARNES and BARTLETT both enjoy their sound. They've done several of Steely Dan's tunes together. Core members of the band... Steely Dan, are DONALD FAGEN and HERE and WALTER BECKER and  HERE. These two were known to be 'perfectionists in the recording studio,.. calling in several musical artists for each recording. This quote from WIKIPEDIA..
"Over the year they took to record Gaucho (1980), an album of just seven songs, Becker and Fagen hired at least 42 studio musicians and 11 engineers.[10]".

Steely Dan won a GRAMMY for Album of the year, has been inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2001, and they have sold over 40 million albums worldwide.
The band disbanded in 1981, but contines to have a large cult-like following over the years. Weve been fans over the years for sure. Jan
Here's an example of Steely Dan's style and technique, recomended by Steve's guitar friend Mike Karnes. The video's called 'The Making of Aja', [thanks Russ Harris] This is what it says on the video page: " Uploaded on Aug 10, 2008
A clip of the interviews with the players to the above reference music".
